This is why I love being a boot camp instructor or fitness professional :

""Phil is the real deal. He is incredibly knowledgeable, has a wonderful personality, and will push you beyond your mental and physical limits. There's no question that Phil knows exactly how to train you to get the most out of your body.
Phil can teach you exactly how to get your nutrition under control. He gives you a easy spreadsheet to follow, that works wonders!
The best part about working with Phil is he always answers my questions, no matter if I had already asked the same question 50 times, he never gets frustrated and he has a wonderful sense of humor.
It is nice having a trainer you do NOT mind seeing on a weekly basis!""

About your coach!

Hello, I'm Phil Nicolaou, PhD, M.A , NASM,ISSA,IFPA,NESTA Master Trainer.

Welcome to my Tri County Adventure Boot Camp. I started this to offer women an affordable, exciting, and fun team environment where they can meet friendlty like minded women all with similar goals, but one common theme, to do something great for themselves and take time out of their hectic day!

It stems from my desire to just help out! Whether its nutritional coaching, fitness information or just a concern, im always available!

In high school I was very athletic. Having played sports such as basketball, soccer and baseball all year round, I kept myself in good shape. However, all that changed when I got to college.

When I was about 20 years old, I lived a very sedentary, college-like lifestyle. I went from class back to my house and repeated the cycle day after day. And none of my friends were local except for one or two, so I was kind of lonely. Therefore, I spent all my free time playing computer games, which are very fun, but require no energy and no caloric expenditure.

Then one day, I had a physical exam with my long-time primary care physician. But this was not just an ordinary physical. My doctor said that overall my health was OK. I asked him, "OK?" He said, "Yes, Phil, just OK." I asked, "Why just OK." I had not realized how sedentary I was. By spending so much time at home in front of the computer, I developed a really bad eating habit, and considering I hardly moved, I managed to accumulate quite a bit of body fat. I must have been consuming in excess of 2500-3000 calories a day, many of which were hidden and I blew up!

He said for someone my age and height, my BMI (body mass index) and body fat, which is the measure of your body weight for your height/size frame, was not good. He remembered how fit I was in high school and asked me if I was active in any sports. I told him that I wasn't. So he said to me, "Phil, your family has a good, healthy genetic history, but that doesn’t mean that you can't get diseases linked to obesity!"

I was SHOCKED! How could a star soccer, baseball and basketball player years later become obese?

He told me that if I continued down that path, I stood a good chance of developing various diseases that are caused by being VERY overweight, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, among others. I had not realized that my health had deteriorated that bad!

This was a wake up call for me. The next week, not knowing ANYTHING about exercise or dieting, I decided to join a local gym. I went religiously, but had no clue what I was doing. I worked my chest everyday thinking that the more I did this, the more I'd get big and strong!

I didn’t know that muscles need time to recover and that they grew at rest, not at the gym.

I would also do two hours of cardio. For someone that just started working out that is what I would call a SEVERE overtraining! Two hours of cardio a week into a workout routine?!

But I didn’t know any better. Until one day, at the front desk of the gym, I came across a business card for a personal trainer who was a contractor. I had nothing to lose, so I called this trainer, told him my situation and he said he could help!

I started to work with him. He prescribed proper cardio workout for me to do, monitored my food intake and monitored my weight exercises. And in several months, I went from having 38% to 15% body fat.

Then came the big question. He asked me, "Did you ever think of doing this, becoming a personal trainer?"

I told him, what do I know about exercise, that’s what I hired you for. He said, you can learn how just like anything else. Take courses or go to a school, and get certified, get an entry level job and start there.

I asked him, what makes you think I can do this?

He said, first of all, you have a tremendous amount of patience. Patience like yours is rare! You genuinely care about people, retain and learn fast and are a really good-hearted guy! Anyone that would train with you in the future would love your personality.

He suggested I look into a distance learning course that would get me started for a nominal fee. I was already a full-time student in college and didn’t want to spend a ton of money or time going to school to learn how to personally train someone.

So I did a search online and found a company called NESTA. It was founded by Dr. John Spencer Ellis. I didn’t know anything about him nor about the company, but liked the idea of distance learning. Especially, taking the test from home with some practical portion, like taking pictures or a video of exercises.

NESTA sent me the materials and that summer, I earned my first “certified personal trainer” certification. Shortly thereafter, I got a weekend job working at a country club as an exercise assistant. Not quite a trainer, but it was a good starting point.

Later on, I managed to obtain over 10 more certifications ranging from nutrition to yoga, pilates, core conditioning and post-rehab. So when we work together, you can trust that I DO HAVE the KNOWLEDGE and expertise to help you!

Since then, I realized that it is my calling to help people achieve life changing results through proven science! To get out of being obese and to get off the medications that can be costly both money-wise and health-wise.

I went from being obese to being healthy and you can too!

Let me help you learn what I've learned through NESTA, the IFPA,NASM and ISSA and through daily experience, over the past 10+ years. Let me help you see that you can change your life and to live a happier, healthier and longer life.

Let me be your guide to complete wellness! Let me be your mentor to make your transition!

People always tell me “do you know what it's like to be so fat that your clothes don’t fit, to turn to food for comfort, to get laughed at for being larger, to not be able to fit into certain rides or do certain fun activities with family and friends just because you are too big.” My answer is YES, I do know and YES, we can change that. That is one thing not written in stone! I can empathize with you! I know the road is not easy, but I will be there every step of the way as your trusted fitness source!

I wanted to offer a way to help women achieve the same life changing results that I did and no better way than to team with up with coaches of the Adventure Boot Camp. This boot camp is nation wide and is now also expanding to Europe. It is designed with women in mind and it a great and affordable way to get the same result you would with a one on one session, but in a friendly, supportive and FUN group setting. The coaches nationwide are supportive and helpful and it is like being in a big family! Women can relate to each other and I can help facilitate that.

My education is as follows. I am nationally certified by 4 of the leading fitness education certification organizations in the United States. ISSA (Internationl Sports Sciences Association, NASM (Nationla Academy of Sports Medicine), IFPA (International Fitness Professionals Association, and NESTA ( National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association).

So I can understand when you say, "I gain weight quickly, "or I just look at the food and seems I  gain a pound." I am by no means a 12 pack, fitness super athletic person. I've had to work hard to get my results and can relate to many women and men when it comes to "I let myself or and need to get back on track."

When campers tell me things like ,"I love this program," or "Im hooked," makes me feel amazing to know that im helping impact someones life for a healthier lifestyle!  Come join in on the fun! I bet you get hooked! It is hard to not get hooked. We laugh, tease each other and just have a good time all while sweating and burning massive amounts of calories! Whether it is battle ropes, tires, sprints, hurdles or even burpees, its all great!

What YOU Get any why Adventure Boot Camp is not an ordinary fitness boot camp class:

Interested in getting a great workout with a fitness professional? What we arent is a group exercise class filled with hundreds of people in a room somewhere, with an instructor that has no idea who you are or if your exercising correctly. I take notice! This is not just body combat, or body pump.
I don't want a million woman in class. I want those that are devoted and motivated! Its not about packing in the participants and not caring about who you are or your abilities, hobbies, interests..etc. Here you get to know me! I get to know you! Are you going to that in a gym? Rarely. Personal training studio, sure but you'll also pay a whole lot more for a very similar service!

If you like your trainer paying attention to you, your goals and your ability in class. If you like the one on one attention without the price tag. If you like to be known, not just an account number to auto debit each month. Want to feel like your part of a team, not just a person in a class with an instructor who doesn't care to get to know you? Adventure Boot Camp is just that. A more personal exercise program. I notice when your not in class. I check in to make sure everything is ok. Does a gym do that? Nope! You are not just an account number, your a member of a team of women who are all out to achieve a common goal, health and wellness. In fact many campers currently and in the past have become friends, such good friends they were in wedding parties!

So no, not just a typical bootcamp with a lot of people, and an instructor with a wistle, screaming exercises to your face. Who needs an obnoxious trainer? Motivation is one thing, being obnoxious is another!

Im not super cheap or super expensive. I give a lot of value for the monthly fee. Does a $5 boot camp class send you newsletters? offer assessments? custom meal plans? check in with you regularly? email you saying good job? Remember your birthday?Get to know your name? You better believe a $5 class, while it may be a boot camp style workout is barebones! You go in, workout and leave. You may get to know others and maybe even the instructor. Often times you won't.

Sure there are boot camp classes everywhere, but the difference is they have no idea who you are nor do they typically care. Its the opposite of what Adventure Boot Camp is. I make a point to get to learn your name and things about you! You don't feel lost. Like you would in a lecure hall in college.  You join a gym, most people don't go yet pay monthly. Does the gym care? nope. They need people to not show up because if everyone showed up, they would not have enough space to accomodate every paying member! Fact! When you joing Adventure Boot Camp, I want you there! You are here to get results, have fun and maybe even make new friends! You can't get results in a gym where noone cares whether you go or not!  What is the sense in that?

A Free custom designed meal plan ($300 value)

A ton of variety! We use TRX Rip Trainers, TRX Suspension Trainers, Sandbag workouts, Weighted sleds, Body bars, ab rollers, battle ropes..and much more...things you will never find in a conventional gym or training studio, GUARANTEED! Want to try your max strength (in time) and flip a tractor tire? Push a car, with other women (not alone) do exercises that are not conventional? Its all here! Its your fitness adventure!

A Free Adventure Boot Camp Cook Book ($50 value)

A Free T Shirt (with a 3 month committment)

Nutritional Workshop prior to each camp

Most importantly, you get to look great and feel amazing all while having a BLAST and meeting friendly like minded women!

Boot Camp Videos:

Making an impact in your life

"You know how they (whoever “they” are) say people come and go in your life when you need them to? Well Phil is a person that came into my life and has made an amazing impact. I met him over a year ago (May 2012) when I first signed up for his boot camp. Now, over a year later; I’m still participating in his boot camp and training. Phil is educated, informative and energized. I appreciate that he knows how to push me hard during a session and encourages me to go beyond my comfort zones in a safe way. I leave a challenging 1-hour session 3x a week, feeling so energized and proud of myself (and very sweaty!). Phil knows his “stuff” –exercises, modifying drills/exercises when needed, nutritional tips, etc… All of this makes up a great package in a personal trainer. Phil truly cares about his clients and that shows when you work with him. The personal touch is what separates him from other gyms/trainers I’ve worked with over the years.

Obviously, as you read—I can’t say enough great things about my relationship and experience with Phil. Because of him- I’ve finally been able to commit to a fitness routine, be accountable to myself and I have seen fantastic results.

He is an asset to any client or business he works with. His client’s success is his success and will be your center’s success as well."

Talk about GREAT VALUE!

See what our campers are saying about Tri County Adventure Boot Camp

"I have been active all of my life. Before I turned 50 I slowed down. I was feeling miserable. No energy, out of shape, and like a blob.

I saw the ad for the boot camp and thought I need to do this for myself. I tried it and it was just what I needed. As women we all need to do something for ourselves and we don't. Do the boot camp for yourself you will meet, great woman, and have the best and most versatile workout ever! There are no work outs the same. You won't be bored and you will feel energized, happy and ready to conquer everyday. Where else can you flip a tire, pull a weight sled, and push a car!

Be adventurous you won't regret it!"

Here is what Christy has to say:

"It's been a great experience. Where else can you work out, of course, and have a ton of fun at the same time. I've also had the opportunity to develop some wonderful friendships. It's a win win for me!!"

"Also, wanted to let you know that I really am enjoying the workouts.  It is exactly what I have needed at this time of my life.  Hard  workouts in a safe supportive environment.  I think it may be making a difference body wise. I know I feel better and that is a huge part of it, right?!

First Cape May boardwalk run of the season!! Beautiful day to be outside! Also I am happy that I ran the whole way and felt awesome the whole time. Thank you boot camp! It really has made a difference in my overall fitness thanks Phil Nicolaou"

Another reason why YOU need to be at Tri County Adventure Boot Camp!

"I enjoy the program...I've been doing it a little over a year now. I like getting my workout in early to get me ready for my day. It gives me motivation to perform other tasks throughout the day. My favorite classes are the strength training and the tabata style classes.

I love feeling the burn in my legs and arms! I love when we do the crab walks, wall sits, lunge...kicks, and the ankle bands! I feel like I can really target those muscle groups during those exercises, among others that we do. I get that we need to partner up at times, but I do prefer the individual exercises.

I feel I can work at my own pace instead of someone else's. It just allows me to focus on the quality rather than the quantity. That being said, there has always been a great group of women in camp to make working out more fun ."
Cheri

"I like the idea of working out but lose motivation very easily. When I go to the gym I go through the same routine of walking on the treadmill and using the machines but have no idea what I should be doing to get the most out of my workout. Coming to bootcamp I know I will get a great workout every time with a great group of women who are seeking the same thing. I know that if I struggle with a skill it can be modified for my fitness level as well as skills that I excel at can be made more difficult to get the most out of my workout. Everyone is very supportive of each other and Phil is motivating but you never feel that you are being pushed to go beyond your limits or be perfect. Bootcamp is a great experience and I am actually motivated and excited to get a great workout every time I go! 5 months later I am still going strong!"
